Bluebunch wheatgrass is a native, cool-season, drought-tolerant, perennial bunchgrass. It is abundant throughout the Pacific Northwest, Rocky Mountain states, Great Basin and Northern Great Plains. It is most abundant in parts of Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, eastern Oregon and Washington, often forming stands of up to 60 percent ground cover. It is the state grass of Montana.(source introduction)
