It has been over 30 years since early satellite imagery illustrated serious degradation across much of the high quality savanna rangelands. It sparked a surge of research, development and extension (RD&E) activities by government agencies, CSIRO, universities, regional community bodies, private providers, producer groups, industry employees and members of the industry itself to define the extent of degradation and then to initiate a program of rehabilitation.
