Rangeland monitoring is the orderly repeated
collection, analysis, and interpretation of resource information
(data). It can be used to make both short- and long-term
management decisions. This guide is designed to provide
individuals interested in monitoring rangelands with
information and processes useful for simple, quick, and
efficient monitoring. Use of any of these methods is voluntary.
When the procedures in this guide are followed,
the information gathered is acceptable to federal
and state cooperating agencies. Coordinate public
lands monitoring with the appropriate public land
manager, and jointly collect the information
whenever possible. The information collected will
be referenced and will contribute to evaluating
whether rangelands are meeting standards, goals,
and/or objectives.
