This publication synthesizes over 40 years of study by E. William (Bill) Anderson and his coworkers. Oregon is extremely fortunate that Bill Anderson was the Chief of Party for the initial range surveys in the late 1930s and that he remained in Oregon for the rest of his career. Since his retirement, Bill has continued to study Oregon’s resources and to develop the concept and descriptions of ecological provinces for Oregon. This is a prime example of having the right person in the right positions at the right times and for the duration of time necessary to develop a sufficient understanding of these resources to produce this document. All of us working with natural resources in Oregon owe Bill a tremendous debt of gratitude. - William C. Krueger Michael M. Borman
