Public Lands 101: the Owners & the Managers
Public lands are lands and waters owned by all Americans and managed for us by the federal government. Over one quarter of Americaâ€™s land mass is public land. These 640 million acres are managed for us primarily by four U.S. land management agencies: The Bureau of Land Management,The United States Forest Service,The United States Fish and Wildlife Service, and The National Park Service.
