The Regional Center for Sustainable Economic Development (RCSED) was established at the University of Arizona in 2009 as the state's Economic Development Administration-designated University Center. RCSED helps the University of Arizona to further its Land Grant mission by providing outreach across the state on a variety of economic development technical assistance, education and research projects. RCSED works directly with local communities to diversify their economies, recognize and utilize their strengths, as well as identify, promote, and grow sustainable industries and businesses, thereby facilitating job retention, expansion and creation. RCSED fosters a broader and stronger economic base, as well as an economic system that has a long-term view towards sustainability and consideration for social and environmental concerns. RCSED is housed within University of Arizona Cooperative Extension; additional financial support is provided by the Economic Development Administration, part of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
