Riparian areas of the southwestern United States have been receiving more attention in recent years. Much of the increased attention can be attributed to the fact that riparian areas occur near water, an important resource that cannot be underestimated particularly in the southwest. The greater water availability in riparian areas relative to adjacent terrestrial uplands promotes greater vegetative and wildlife diversity. AZ 1432
