The numbers and canopy size of shrubs and trees increased on the majority of Western AustralianRangeland Monitoring System (WARMS) sites in the arid and semi -arid shrublands of WesternAustralia over the last decade.Recruitment of new individuals was commonplace.Recruits wereobserved on almost all sites and for the majority of species. About 40% of the sites were reassessedwithin an area declared for Exceptional Circumstances. While there were some negative impacts fromthe combination of pastoralism and dry seasons, they were not catastrophic, as has been previouslyobserved following severe drought.
