In the 1860s Arivaca was abandoned for a time, but just as its streets were starting to grow over Colonel M. Oliver Davidson was arriving in the area, the newly appointed superintendent of the Cerro Colorado Mine. Davidson held the post until 1867 when he returned to New York to become the Chief Engineer of Streets.
