Born of the conflict between European settlers and the Apaches, the Arivaca area experienced a rash of murders in 1886 when Geronimo and 42 followers passed through the area, chased by General Crook. The dead included Mrs. A.L. Peck, her baby and Phil Shananhan, some of the last white Americans killed by Geronimo and his band.
