Body
In this article, Tana Kappel discusses the history and role of prescribed fire in the Altar Valley with a number of local stakeholders. Although fire historically played an important role in the valley, in recent years endangered species concerns have made such fires more difficult to plan. Local ranchers teamed with the Nature Conservancy to produce the Altar Valley Fire Management Plan which went into effect in 2009.
