This news release documents the creation of the first private endangered species conservation bank approved by the US Fish and Wildlife Service for the Pima Pineapple Cactus. A parcel of land on the Palo Alto Ranch located in the Altar Valley will be protected, in perpetuity, for the conservation of the rare cactus. Safeway was the first contributor to the bank after the construction of one of their stores in Sahuarita resulted in the loss of valuable cactus habitat.
