Body

Some ecosystems in North America have been so radically transformed by human activity, that they have often been described as domesticated. Chris Call of Utah State University examines how cheatgrass is replacing Sagebrush systems in the lower elevations and Pinyon/Juniper encroachment is transforming it from above. The good news is that management is possible in both cases to direct these transformative processes back towards a state that is favorable for both humans and from the standpoint of biodiversity and ecosystem services.
