Body

Campbell-Kissock et al. compared the diets of bobwhites and scaled quail in cattle grazed pastures of southwest Texas. They found little dietary overlap for these birds during the fall-winter season, with the majority of the diet being at 72% green vegetation for bobwhites and only 52% for scaled quail. Stocking rates that produce a moderate intensity of grazing and an increase in the diversity of the plant community are desirable management implications for the two bird species. Scaled quail may be more adept to living in an overgrazed area due to the fact that their diets are much more broad that the bobwhite.
