Guethner and Wambolt looked at the effects of mule deer browsing on bitterbrush plant health in Montana. Bitterbrush plants found at higher elevations were not browsed as heavily as plants at lower elevations, mainly due to the amount of snow accumulation found in the higher elevations. They urged for proper wildlife management of the mule deer herds in the area to ensure the bitterbrush population is sustained and the resource is not depleted.
