Body

Liu et al. examined the effect of an intensive grazing system on the diversity of below ground microorganisms in the Chihuahuan Desert. The authors set up a severe grazing situation to simulate an overgrazed pasture in a sparse grassland. Their results showed that even at such an intense grazing pressure, cattle had no influence on the diversity and abundance of soil microorganisms. Factors such as summer drought and summer fire had the highest negative effect on the microorganisms.
