Body

This study on the Buenos Aires National Refuge in south central Arizona examined the effects of bird predation on grasshoppers that feed on broom snakeweed (Gutierrezia sarothrae) and threadleaf snakeweed (Gutierrezia microcephala). Grasshopper (Hesperotettix viridis and Melanoplus aridus) densities of both adutls and nymphs were counted on 12 paired plots (non-caged and caged) over three years to determine the effect of bird predation on these insect populations.
