Horizontal wells make use of the principle of the qanat developed in Persia about 2,500 years ago and still widely used there and in other arid regions of the world. The driven horizontal well offers several important advantages over the hand dug qanat especially for livestock watering places. This material was digitized as part of a cooperative project between the Society for Range Management and the University of Arizona Libraries.
