Body

Plant succession was examined on reclaimed sites at zero, two, 10 and 25 years post-reclamation in the barren lands of Haukadalasheidi in Southern Iceland (64˚ 35’ N; 20˚ 28’ W). Reclaimed sites were all aerial seeded and from ranged from 100 to 600 ha in size. Sites were fertilized following a five year schedule with two different fertilizers at two different rates. Vegetative cover and surface objects were measured. Soil samples were collected for measuring arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) spores and root colonization of both seeded grasses and native grasses and forbs.
