Subsoil draining improved the growth and nutrient content of heather on Scottish moors covered by shallow peat, where drainage is impeded by an iron pan underneath. On such moors, subsoiling has significant advantages over conventional open drains. This material was digitized as part of a cooperative project between the Society for Range Management and the University of Arizona Libraries.
