Body

Duck nest success on 12 pastures grazed under a once-over rotational grazing system and 12 pastures grazed season-long was measured in the prairie pothole region of southern Saskatchewan. In 1995 and 1996, from the middle of May until the middle of July, duck nests were located by dragging a chain/cable between two ATVs. Areas with too many shrubs or trees for proper searching were not used. Residual biomass was clipped the following May after each search to determine differences in utilization. Daily survival rate of nests was determined using a modified Mayfield method.
