South Australia (SA) is the driest state in the world’s driest inhabited continent. The “SA Outback” constitutes more than 80% of the State’s land area or approximately 741 000 km2 . About half of this is allocated to conservation areas and Aboriginal land use – the remainder consists of pastoral stations. There are 219 stations that make up the pastoral estate in South Australia.
