Sampling design influences the accuracy and confidence that an investigator can place on the information derived from a data set. This study was undertaken to quantify the influence of systematic and random sample designs on the estimation of stubble height. Variance estimates, data set range, adequate sample size, and relative variation were greater with the systematic sampling design, and mean estimates were lower when compared with estimates derived from a random sampling design. © 2019 The Society for Range Management
