The data for this report was collected at the end of calendar year 2002. It provides a snapshot look at the 2002 grazing season. In fiscal year 1998 the Forest Service decommissioned the Data General computer system and upgraded to the IBM RISC 6000 platform. Data that was in the Forest Service Range Management Information System was exported to a flat file format and placed in storage while a new database system was being developed. No digital data records were available for fiscal year 1999 as a new database system was under development. This is the third report under the new Infrastructure database system. Data records that were acquired for this report represent the best available data from regions, forests, and districts at the time the data records were accumulated into one data set. The data set is not considered to be 100% accurate as several units were unable to meet data entry deadlines due to system availability, extreme fire and drought conditions in several regions, and lack of resources to complete the tasks. While subsequent data queries should provide more accurate data sets, and improve the data reliability, caution should be taken when using this data, as it should not be misrepresented as a 100% accurate data set.(source disclaimer)
