Cattle were used in this study to determine the distribution of animals in proximity to riparian areas, during different times of the year. The authors found that cattle spent equal amounts of time in the uplands as in the riparian areas in early summer. Conversely, in late summer, authors found that the cattle were in the riparian areas more frequently, leading to decreased distribution. Authors conclude that early summer grazing of riparian areas was not detrimental and that adaptive management is needed in these types of rangeland grazing sites. In summary, season of use affected cattle distribution relative to the riparian area, with late summer pastures having more concentrated use of riparian vegetation.
