Body

Dryland systems of the Great Plains have experienced their share of drought and floods over the past century, however climate and other social-ecological changes over the past 20 years becoming more challenging to cope with. Droughts, floods, ice storms have experienced across the Great Plains affecting agricultural systems, livelihoods, and communities across the region. How each portion of the region is able to cope or create opportunities from these social-ecological changes is dependent on the adaptive capacity available to those communities. The recent technical assessment report conducted for the US National Climate Assessment provides evidence of the changes in climate variability and the impacts on natural resources and livelihoods across the region.
