Body

The winter diets of moose (Alces alces) and white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus), in Baxter State Park, Maine, showed some dietary overlap, with the major distinction being greater use of white spruce (Picea glauca) by white-tailed deer and the greater use of balsam fir (Abies balsamea) by moose. Seven species of shrubs and trees were common in the diets of both species. Schoener's overlap value calculated a 41.2% similarity in diets of moose and white-tailed deer.
