The objectives of this study were to discover the effects of herbivory, fire, and the interaction between herbivory and fire on the species richness, abundance, and composition of a Louisiana intermediate marsh. In this study of an oligohaline marsh, herbivory and fire were found to have important effects on the biomass of the dominant and some subdominant species. Two dominant perennial species, Spartina patens and Scirpus olneyi, were negatively affected by herbivory, while two annual sedges, Cyperus odorata and Cyperus flavescens were positively affected. Although both herbivory and fire had important effects, no significant interaction between fire and herbivory was observed.
