Body

The effect of habitat (5 terrestrial and 2 stream) on livestock distribution and behavior was examined within a riparian pasture within the Blue Mountain Ecological Province (45° 7’ 57” N; 117° 42’ 31” W) in northeastern Oregon. In this two year study, time spent in plant habitats within a riparian area and 13 cattle activity were recorded using focal visual monitoring. Cattle grazed from August 13 to September 9. Eighteen days of observations were made across the season (6 days early season, 6 days mid season, and 6 days late season) during 2, 4 hours observation periods. Stocking rate was 0.82 ha/AUM for 28 days in each year of the study. Vegetation measurements were taken after each grazing season.
